In the first part of the talk, I will review one of the most distinctive signatures of dark matter: the annual modulation that should be detected in direct detection experiments, due to the relative motion of the Earth around the Sun.
In the second part, I will focus on (almost astrophysics independent) bounds that can be placed on the annual modulation in terms of the unmodulated event rate and show the results when we apply them to DAMA and CoGENT [JCAP03 (2012)005, 1112.1627 [hep-ph]. Finally I will show how the unmodulated rate of one experiment can bound the annual modulation seen in another experiment and show the results [PRL, 1205.0134 [hep-ph]].
